acute - a disease of short duration, but usually severe or of an intense degree

allopathic - literally, "different suffering"; refers to medicine which focuses on drugs to actively kill cells or smother symptoms. Allopathic medicine also focuses on surgery to cut portions of the body in an attempt to heal dysfunction and disease

allergy - a damaging immune system response to a substance to which a person has become hypersensitive

asthma - a respiratory condition marked by a spasm of the lungs causing difficulty in breathing

chromosome - a threadlike structure found in the nucleus of most living cells, carrying genetic information in the form of genes

chronic - persisting for a long time or constantly recurring

corticosteroids - any of a group of hormones produced in the adrenal cortex or made synthetically having various metabolic functions or treating inflammation

dynamic - a force that stimulates change or progress within a system

dysfunction - a disease or condition where the body's mechanisms do not work properly

eczema - medical condition in which patches of skin become rough and inflamed, sometimes with blisters that cause itching and bleeding

gastrointestinal - relating to the stomach, intestines or digestive system

hormone - a regulatory substance produced by an organism and transported in tissue fluids to stimulate specific cells or tissues into action

immunosuppressive drugs - medicine given to suppress the immune response, especially after organ transplants

infection - condition of being affected by a disease-causing organism

materia medica - description of homeopathic remedies

neurological - pertaining to the nervous system or nerves

orthopedic - concerned with making corrections to bones and muscles

pharmaceutical - relating to medicinal drugs, their preparation, use and sale

potency - power or influence; the strength of a substance to provoke a response

remedy - medicine or treatment for disease or injury; a means of counteracting something undesirable

succussion - to shake a solution vigorously

trauma - a deeply disturbing experience; emotional shock following a profound physical injury or stressful event

wholeness - all parts of a system working in an unbroken, undamaged state; healthiness
